Banking Education That Actually Makes Sense
We started loqilumira in 2019 because we were tired of watching people struggle with banking concepts that should be straightforward. After years working in traditional banking, we realized the industry speaks a different language than real people do. So we built something different.
How We Got Here
Look, banking education used to mean sitting through hours of PowerPoint presentations filled with jargon. We've all been there. Someone explaining compound interest using formulas that make your eyes glaze over.
Our founder spent fifteen years in retail banking. She noticed something frustrating—customers would nod along during consultations, then call back the next day with the same questions. The information wasn't sticking because it wasn't being explained in ways humans actually process.
We built loqilumira around conversations, not lectures. Real scenarios instead of theoretical examples. The kind of banking knowledge you can actually use when you're standing in a branch or staring at your banking app at midnight.

What Drives Us Forward
Plain Language
We don't say "amortization schedule" when we can say "your payment breakdown." Banking has enough complexity without adding unnecessary vocabulary. Our materials use the words you'd use with a friend.
Real Situations
Every example comes from actual banking scenarios. Buying your first home. Managing student loans. Setting up business accounts. We teach using situations our participants will face next month, not theoretical case studies.
Honest Limits
Banking education won't solve every financial challenge. We're clear about what our programs can and can't do. You'll learn to navigate banking systems confidently—but we never promise overnight wealth or guaranteed outcomes.
Meet Our Lead Educator

Elspeth Carmody
From Bank Manager to Educator
Elspeth spent twelve years managing a high street bank branch before joining loqilumira in 2020. She got tired of watching customers make preventable mistakes because nobody explained how overdraft protection actually works or why certain accounts charge monthly fees.
Her teaching style comes from those years behind the counter. She remembers the questions people were too embarrassed to ask. The confusion about direct debits versus standing orders. Why savings accounts sometimes lose money to inflation even when the balance goes up.
Now she designs our curriculum around those real moments. Her approach focuses on practical application—what you need to know when opening an account, applying for credit, or choosing between financial products. No theory for theory's sake.
Small Group Focus
Classes cap at fifteen participants. Elspeth learned early that banking education works best when people can ask follow-up questions without feeling judged.
Flexible Pacing
Some concepts click immediately, others take time. Our programs adapt to how quickly participants grasp material rather than rushing through predetermined schedules.
Our Path Since 2019

2019
Starting Small
Launched with weekend workshops in Liverpool. Twenty-three people showed up to our first session. We covered basic banking terminology and account types—fundamentals that many never learned formally.
2021
Program Expansion
Added specialized courses on mortgages and business banking after requests from participants. Moved into our current facility with proper classroom space and one-on-one consultation areas.
2023
Digital Resources
Built out online materials for participants who needed flexible learning schedules. Video explanations, interactive tools, and reference guides that complement in-person sessions.
2025
Community Network
Now working with local organizations to provide banking education workshops. Our autumn 2025 program includes partnerships with three community centres across Merseyside.
Ready to Understand Banking?
Our next program begins in September 2025. Small groups, practical focus, and no confusing jargon. Just straightforward banking education that makes sense.
